5 Hidden corners of Bled that most people don’t know about

February 19, 2026

Most visitors come to Bled for the lake with its iconic island and Bled Castle, as these are the most recognizable attractions of the area. Visiting the small church on the island is certainly an interesting experience, but since Lake Bled is often very crowded during peak season, sometimes even overflowing with people, it’s good to know a few hidden spots in the surrounding area as well. There you’ll find numerous trails, viewpoints, and peaceful corners that tourists often overlook.

Here are 5 ideas for places you can explore alone, with friends, or with family when you want to discover new, lesser known parts of Bled or escape to quieter, less touristy areas.

Poglejska Cerkev (Poglejska Church)

Despite its misleading name, this is actually a rock cave known as Poglejska Cave (Poglejska jama). This glacial cave is a true geological curiosity. Stone age tools were discovered in this small cavern, placing it among the earliest archaeological sites in Slovenia. The cave is also the starting point of the popular Rikli Trail and it’s important to note that this Rikli Trail is not the same as the one in the Primorska region, but a unique local trail named after natural healer Arnold Rikli. The trail offers beautiful views and leads past many natural attractions in the Bled area. The cave is reachable on foot from Bled in about 20 to 30 minutes, as it is located roughly 2 km away. Since there are no huts or food options nearby, you can stop at one of our restaurants in Charming Bled, where a pleasant ambiance awaits you.

Galetovec Viewpoint

Galetovec is easily accessible by marked trails and offers a panoramic view stretching from Jesenice almost all the way to Kranj. It’s a wonderful choice for families, as the trail is fairly easy, suitable even for younger children, and provides plenty of opportunities for play. At the top, you’ll find educational boards that present the surrounding mountains and nature in an engaging way. The starting point is about a 15 minute drive from Bled, followed by about an hour of walking. There are no food or drink options at the summit, so it’s especially nice to visit Charming Bled upon your return and enjoy refreshment and a meal at our restaurants Restaurant and Wine Bar Murka or The Oldest Bled Cellar, which is the oldest Bled wine cellar.

Secret Trails Above Rečica

If you enjoy hiking, the area above the village of Rečica is the perfect choice for you. A wide selection of forest trails offers the ideal escape for solitude, meditation, or simply enjoying the woods. Since Rečica is only 3 km from Bled, it’s a perfect short getaway. But as it’s a wild forest without mountain huts or drink vendors, it’s good to know that the restaurants of Charming Bled always awaits you afterwards with drinks, a warm meal, or a glass of Slovenian wine.

Hom Above Zasip

At the popular yet peaceful spot of Hom stands the charming Church of St. Catherine. The view of the Karavanks, with mount Stol and Begunjščica, is simply breathtaking. Hom is very easy to reach, either on foot with a short 30 minute hike or even by car. The walking path is mostly shaded and pleasant even in summer heat, making this an ideal place for relaxation, a family adventure, and taking beautiful photos. There is also a restaurant and pizzeria at Hom where you can get refreshments and something to eat.

The Lake Terrace Below the Village of Kupljenik

For one of the most beautiful and least known views of Lake Bled and Bled Castle, head up to the area near the village of Kupljenik. The trail is somewhat steep and more challenging, taking up to 40 minutes from Bled, but the view you get in return is worth every step. This is a truly exceptional spot for photography, and after the effort and the gorgeous view, visitors treat themselves to a stop at the Charming Bled restaurants, where you can enjoy the famous Bled cream cake or a glass of premium Slovenian wine in The Oldest Bled Cellar.
